I’m really excited to be reading tomorrow as a part of MONKEYBICYCLE’s Lighting Round! Reading Series. I’m one of 20 in the awesome, all-women line up.

Here’s a bit more about the event:

This quarterly reading series fuses quick, high energy readings with a broad range of voices–both established and emerging–into a seamless hour of literary brilliance. Each event will feature 20 readers, each of whom will read no longer than three minutes before introducing the next reader. No interruption from the host means a continuous listening experience. No guidelines other than length means maximum variety of form and content. Monkeybicycle’s Lightning Round! Reading Series: a cure for the common reading.

JULY 13TH, 7pm, The Cake Shop, New York City

There has been a lot of talk in recent months about the lack of female writers included in places like The New Yorker and The Atlantic. And in Esquire’s recent list of “75 Books Every Man Should Read,” only one was penned by a woman. This is a sad state of affairs, and like so many others, we at Monkeybicycle wish this didn’t need to be a discussion. But since it is, we’ve decided to show our solidarity by hosting a Monkeybicycle Lightning Round! event consisting of nothing but female readers. We’ve rounded up some of the best in the business from the New York area for what is sure to be an amazing event.

READERS INCLUDE: Hannah Assadi, Jami Attenberg, Kate Hill Cantrill, Laura Carney, Ann DeWitt, Claire Donato, Shelley Jackson, Rozi Jovanovic, Aya Karpinska, Catherine Lacey, Deb Olin Unferth, Dawn Raffel, Lauren Spohrer, Terese Svoboda, Lauren Waterman, Anya C. Yurchyshyn, and others.
