The NMA’s list of finalists is out.  The NMA’s always confuse me a bit, but there are a few things I find very exciting in this year’s golden batch:

In fiction, The American Scholar got nods for two stories by writers I love: Royal Blue, by Charles Baxter and Happy with Crocodiles, by Jim Shepard.  Nice!

And Triple Canopy was nominated in the General Excellence Online category (for sites receiving less than 1,000,000 average monthly unique visitors). Good for them-they really deserve it.  If you don’t read Triple Canopy start doing so now. Though they are only on their 5th issue, they’ve helped establish and maintain the standard for new online magazines, and that standard is actually (secretly?) very high.  It’s such an interesting collection of relevant and unique stories and art. And the design is great. Double nice.
